How to use this tool
Read the header and payload of a compact JSON Web Token while debugging authentication. Decoding reveals the encoded claims; it does not prove that they are trustworthy.
- Paste a test JWT containing header, payload and signature segments.
- Run the decoder to inspect the header and claims.
- Use your application's verifier to check signatures and claims separately.
Example to try
Unsigned demonstration token, not a credential: eyJhbGciOiJub25lIn0.eyJzdWIiOiJkZW1vIn0.
Supported use and limits
Three-part compact JWTs only. Encrypted JWTs are unsupported. Tokens are decoded on this server, so do not submit live credentials.
Does successful decoding mean a JWT is valid?
No. The tool does not verify signatures, expiration, issuer or audience. Never use its decoded claims to authorize access. Verification belongs in your authentication system.
